Something I have not mastered yet is a sea watch. Without a scope, I am limited to my binoculars and camera to get a good look at the birds.
Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours straining to see through the fog at Cape Spear in order to study size, shape and flashes of white.
As the fog rolled in and roll out, the sea birds followed the same pattern: Fog in equals birds in.
By the time the drizzle got too heavy to stay any longer, I felt a little more confident in identifying what I was seeing.
Photos in order: Leach's Storm Petrel; Manx Shearwater; Sooty Shearwater; and Greater Shearwater.
