More than a week ago, I finally saw the Buff-breasted Sandpipers in the field in Goulds. I spent hours looking and looking over several visits to the area. At last I caught sight of not one, but two Buff-breasted Sandpipers.
In these photos it is easy to see why it was so difficult. The little sandpiper ( so much smaller than the American Golden Plovers) stayed very low in the grass hunting for food. Its color is so similar to the surrounding vegetation that it is easy to miss it. Seen on September 24.
